OSFP recently released the OSFP-XD MSA Revision 1.0, a specification for OSFP-XD: OCTAL SMALL FORM FACTOR eXtra Dense PLUGGABLE MODULE.
Pluggable optical transceivers, with their many advantages, will continue to play a pivotal role in next-generation hyper scale data centers. At OFC’23 there were a few companies showcasing their modules or technologies capable of 1.6 Tbps, enabling 51.2T switches in 1 U configurations, at a reduced power consumption per bit.
There were also demonstrations of 200 Gbps PAM4 signaling which marks an important inflection point in the industry.
